These Days

I realized that I didn't post Desh's stats from last week's 2 month appointment: Desh now weighs 12 pounds and is 23 3/4" long! He will be 10 weeks old tomorrow.

We were told to do tummy time to strengthen his neck, back and arms. He grunts during the first few minutes of it and then gradually gets mad so we don't do it for long.

Desh loves to lay in his crib and watch his mobile. He tracks each animal with his eyes. As soon as I start to wind up the mobile, he smiles and wiggles and kicks with excitement.

He loves to be rocked. And I love to rock him. We rock for hours. So much so that he can't fall asleep for a nap without a little rocking. I know I'll regret that someday but for now I can't help myself.

Speaking of sleep, I've come to terms with it. His first nightly shift of sleep lasts about 3-4 hours and then its 1.5-2 hours after that. His daytime naps last anywhere from 20 to 45 minutes, usually about 30 minutes, but he takes them about every other hour which means I can eat during one nap, shower during the next, clean the kitchen during the next one, etc. I can get a lot done this way if I plan out my day. My blogging is done sporadically throughout the day during his naps. One post can take half a day to write and the other half to insert pictures.

Desh loves his hands. When he can't get to his paci, he'll suck and slobber all over his chubby little fists. I catch him staring at them as they move.

Desh still loves to stare at ceiling fans. Sometimes he'll fuss and then suddenly notice the ceiling fan and stop to look at it. I can see his little mind working trying to figure out just what is that black star above him.

His absolute favorite thing is still laying on his changing table in the window with the shade up. He loves the sunshine and will wiggle and smile while I talk and sing to him.

Desh is a happy little boy. I can't get enough of him. He's getting bigger everyday.

I have to add these pictures of Desh and his crazy hair just because they make me laugh.

Clipping Nails

I hate clipping Desh's nails. It scares me. I'm so worried that I'll accidentally clip off his tiny fingertip. So instead I let his nails get really long and then Ken takes over. He's actually really good at it and can manage to keep the little guy still while he works his magic.

This was a little moment during our Sunday afternoon. Desh's expression cracks me up. Notice the tiny self-inflicted scratches on his face. Poor guy!

Grammy & Grandpa on Desh Duty

And so it begins….

Desh and I went back to work last week and being that I work at a preschool with over 200 kids, the inevitable happened. Desh experienced his first illness. Tuesday morning he woke up with conjunctivitis. I think it was more unsightly than painful. He didn’t seem to mind it until we gave him his eye drops and then he was more mad then anything.

While we were at the doctor, the poor little guy also got his 2 month shots. With the first shot, he didn’t even blink. The second one brought on a whimper. And the third one pushed him over the edge. He wailed and his face turned red. He was not happy! He soon calmed down after he had a little snack and by the time we got him dressed he was smiling again. That evening he was a bit fussy but went to bed by 8:30 and slept, only waking up to eat every few hours.

I think these things are harder on Mom than they are on Desh. I’m sure this isn’t even the worst of what’s to come. And I’ll probably do what my mom said she did, just get through it then cry when its over.

A Day at the Park

Stanford here we come!

Two Months

Mr. Desh is 2 months today! He's as cute as ever! He's smiling and talking and wiggling. He's grabbing on to everything, sticking out his tongue, kicking his legs, and making eye contact. He's still waking up to eat every 2 hours which makes us very sleepy. Sometimes we manage to go 3 hours.

Desh has been such a joy in our home. We love talking and kissing and cuddling him. We think he's the cutest thing EVER.

Spring is here!

I love Saturday mornings when the weather is nice. Ken and I love going for walks around our neighborhood. One of the reasons we bought our house was for the neighborhood and its sidewalks and trails. Today we bundled up the little guy and headed out. The sound of the wheels on the sidewalk and the cool breeze kept him sleeping soundly (a rare treat!).

Some Me Time

This week, with the help of Grammy, I managed to sneak away for a little pampering at The Loft in downtown. Nothing better than getting a fresh look.
